10 minutes of your time mean a decade of difference for your community
Ten minutes of your time can create 10 years of impact: That’s what your U.S. Census answers mean.
By participating in the Census, your answers to nine basic questions will help guide lawmakers, business owners, and many others who will use 2020 Census data over the next decade to make critical decisions. The results will show where communities need new schools, new clinics, new roads, and more services for families, older adults, and children.
Your answers also inform how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding are allocated to more than 100 vital programs like Medicaid, Head Start, block grants for community mental health services, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
To date, an estimated 63% of Californians have responded to the Census, but there’s still time to stand up and be counted:
- By phone—Call (844) 330-2020 to answer Census questions by phone; multiple languages and related supports are available.
- Online—Visit my2020census.gov to take the Census online.
- In person—Starting August 11, Census takers from your own community will visit and interview households that haven’t yet responded to help make sure everyone is counted.
It’s important that the 2020 Census counts 100% of Californians, no matter who they are or what their background is. The Census is completely confidential, so you can rest assured that your personal information is safe and secure. Your answers can’t be shared with courts, police or immigration enforcement, your landlord, or your employer.
