This September, the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) is making strides to reduce their use of paper by requiring license applications and renewals to be submitted online for Registered Nurse (RN) and advanced practice licensees.
Obsolete pocket (identification) cards are also being eliminated.
The rationale for this modification?
An individual’s license status can change from Active to Inactive at any time during the 2-year renewal cycle for a multitude of reasons.
The most current information about the status of a license or certificate is only available through the California Department of Consumer Affair’s (DCA) online verification system, BreEZe.
Employers have the ability to verify license status online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via a convenient “License Search” button available on the home page of the BRN and DCA websites.
For more information, BRN has provided a list of frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) here.
