Governor Brown Proclaims ‘California Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Week’

Millions of working Californians are leaving money on the table at tax time.

One of the most effective tools for lifting families out of poverty, the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) put nearly $200 million directly into the hands of 400,000 working Californians last year. Qualified tax filers are eligible for as much as $6,000—money that can be used to pay bills, cover basic needs for children, and put food on the family table.

But thousands of Californians who quality don’t claim the CalEITC.  A recent survey by the California Budget & Policy Center revealed that only 18 percent of the respondents had heard of the CalEITC.

To raise awareness, California Governor Jerry Brown has proclaimed February 11-17, 2018, as “California Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Week.”  The proclamation encourages Californians to learn more about the credit by visiting www.CalEITC4me.org.

Californians can claim the tax credit at both the state and federal levels.
