It’s the big day. The UC Davis Senior Design Showcase is the future of engineering, designed by future engineers. And the Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists is on-hand to coach, encourage, and share some wisdom with the next generation of problem solvers and innovators.
Take a look:
Each project represents long months of hard work for these students. And for many, the projects are the culmination of an even longer journey.
“As a kid, I really liked playing with Legos and building stuff,” said student Natalie Torres. “It wasn’t until I got to Davis that I really saw the applications.”
Mike Donelson, from the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, is a licensed electrical engineer himself. Today, he’s also an educator and evaluator, talking to these students about their projects and their careers.
While the students have mastered some sophisticated principles to create their projects, they can also benefit from learning how to navigate the steps to become a licensed engineer in the State of California. Donelson is here to help.
“Some of them have already begun the process of licensure. So it’s a great way to engage them and remind them that it’s a career long process,” Donelson said.
