If you’ve ever wondered why hospitals aren’t accidentally built on fault lines, how we ensure our drinking water is clean, or how we have access to materials that power items like our cellphones, you can thank a geologist or a geophysicist.
A new informative and entertaining video—“50 Years of Protecting the Public: The California Professional Geologist License”—was created to memorialize the 50th anniversary of the Geologist Act. On Aug.1, 1968, Gov. Ronald Reagan signed Assembly Bill 600 into law, creating the State Board of Registration for Geologists, and regulating the geologic profession in California. Half a century later, the Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists continues to protect the public’s safety and property by promoting standards for competence and integrity through licensing and regulating the board’s professions. A Senate resolution introduced in March 2018 also commemorated the anniversary.
