Nurse educators or Nursing Education Consultants are registered nurses who educate and train nurses at all levels of practice, including nursing school students. These professionals are clinical experts who have obtained advanced nursing degrees, earning at least a Master’s in Nursing or a related field. Nurse educators not only teach and advocate but also exemplify leadership skills and are often mentors for people working towards becoming a registered nurse, vocational nurse, or psychiatric technician.
A nurse educator can work in:

A nurse educator often:
- Monitors, evaluates, and assesses nursing courses.

The California Department of Consumer Affairs’ Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians and the Board of Registered Nursing recognize the outstanding nurse educators who play a vital role in the development of LVNs and PTs who are also dedicated to health care, teaching and advocacy.
The Board serves and protects the public by licensing qualified and competent vocational nurses and psychiatric technicians through ongoing educational oversight, regulation, and enforcement. If you are interested in working for the Board as a Nursing Education Consultant, or as a Supervising Nurse Education Consultant, you will need to take an exam for these positions.
