Abby LeCureux Honored for Saving a Caller’s Life
SACRAMENTO- Abby LeCureux, a Program Technician III with the California Department of Consumer Affairs’ (DCA) Consumer Information Call Center (CIC) was honored with the Governor’s State Employee Special Service (Silver) Medal of Valor Award for the life-saving actions she took during an extremely urgent call.
On September 29, 2021, LeCureux took a CIC call from a person who was upset, threatening to harm herself. During the 40-minute call, LeCureux calmly kept the caller engaged, got the person’s name and location, and worked with supervisors to notify local police who were able to assist the caller in crisis.
The Governor’s State Employee Special Service (Silver) Medal of Valor Award honors an act of heroism by a state employee extending above and beyond the normal call of duty or service performed at personal risk to his or her safety to save human life or State property.
LeCureux has been with DCA for more than 17 years and is the first DCA employee to receive the prestigious award.
“An important reminder is no matter what is happening right here, right now, you are not alone, there is someone. Whether it’s a text message, a phone call, an email, you are not alone. There is always someone there, you just have to reach out,” LeCureux said.
