You still have time, but not much.
If you want coverage for 2018 under a Covered California health plan, you must enroll by the end date of open enrollment, January 31. Current members seeking to renew and those looking to make changes to their plans must do so by the January 31 deadline, as well.
“Open enrollment is the one time of year when anyone who needs health insurance can enroll without needing to meet special qualifying conditions,” stated Covered California spokesperson James Scullary.
When you apply, depending on factors such as family size, income, and citizenship or immigration status, you will find out if you qualify for:
- A Covered California health plan, with or without financial assistance
- Medi-Cal
- County Children’s Health Initiative Program
- Medi-Cal Access Program for pregnant women
Remember that financial help (e.g., tax credits and cost-sharing subsidies) may be available to you. According to Covered California, about 90 percent of its consumers receive some level of financial aid, and the plans can cost less than a monthly cell phone bill. Visit www.coveredca.com to check your eligibility and to see also how much financial help you can receive.
If you would like help enrolling, click on the “Find Help” tab on Covered California’s website. There are certified enrollers who can help in person; visit the website to find a local enrollment center or a Covered California certified insurance agent, enrollment counselor, or county human services agency. You can also get help via phone at (800) 300-1506 or live-chat online.
